I played a few hours of this game and i played the original to death.

Its not bad, its actually “a better video game” by a large way. But its definitely not what i was expecting.

Graphics are childlike and lowres, while i was really hoping for a Hogwarts legacy level of fidelity. The “your heroes” bit in the tutorial had me cringing.

Its more inspired by quidditch and not at all faithful but that is what makes the gameplay better. The snitch may come up 3 times in a match and gives 30 points.

But that means that snitch is actually a proper tie breaker.

In the old game that becomes way to easy past the age of 12 i remember having scores of 300-0 and i had yet to catch the snitch. The new game is more challenging in direct comparison.

Its weird that teams are so small and i have doubts with certain mechanics but if you mostly play chaser/seeker i don’t really notice much of that and its quite fun.

The promise of no in game real purchases has been holding true and its much cheaper then other modern games.

Conclusion, it isn’t what i or many people wanted and expected but it is definitely not bad a game (as i was worried) and will definitely go back to it.

I originally wasn’t going to get it unless it was what i expected but then i had one of them super bad days just as i saw it got released and i needed a distraction.

That lines up with my beta experience, obviously minus the expectations. It feels hectic and rocket league-y, and juggling between roles with their abilities (keeper can give speed rings, beaters knock people out, etc) was fun.

Definitely feels like a game you could dominate with basic team communication though

I’ve played it. It’s kind of fun but it feels empty somehow. The offline game modes are over quickly, the idea is you control the entire team (even though there’s only one Beater).

Multiplayer is kind of fun, it’s 3v3 meaning you control a Chaser and one other role. The Snitch appears 3 times a match, at which point the one that controls the Seeker can switch.

The controls are okay, although the default control scheme makes no sense whatsoever. You can change it to a better preset and fine tune some stuff. Not everything is intuitive.

After a couple of sessions you’ll be done. You can level up, get different brooms for certain roles. Upgrade the brooms. Spend skill points on roles.

There is no MMR at the moment, multiplayer only works if you are indifferent of your secondary role and your game might get cancelled because too many folks leave.

It has great potential but they need to give the controls a bit more finesse, add a 6v6 game mode (already on the roadmap). They might learn a bit from Rocket League.

The commentary gets kind of annoying, it’s not very extensive but you do need it to be alerted of stuff happening on the pitch.

Essentially they focused on Quaffle mechanics and so the Chasers are the roles that were developed most. It feels like the Keeper was an afterthought, the controls are wonky making it more advantageous not to switch to the Keeper. Because of that, they gave the Keeper the extra skill to ‘call a play’ meaning you can spawn rings on the field to give Chasers a boost when flying through it. This boost is not at all necessary to score, though.

Have only seen one gameplay video on YouTube and those guys seemed not to quite know what they were doing. I don’t think I can convince my friends to play it.

Corporations using memes in their marketing is one step below the annual leeching off of pride month.

    🤮

Seems more likely that the developers like the meme and implemented it, not all decisions are made by shitty corpos. Especially if it’s not a cash shop item or something.

Corporations exploit the enthusiasm and passion of developers and designers for their own profit.

This is 1000% a decision people made at lower levels which the corporation allowed. Which is very different than a cynical marketing exec coming up with it.

It is very rare that cynical marketing execs are both that chronically online and in a decision making position that lets them do things that are “risky” or “waste employee bandwidth”

I bet during pride month, the group huddle before a match consists of an aging coach sharing strong opinions about L.G.B.The-Lot-Of-Them-Are-All-Filthy-Liars-And-Predators-Every-Last-One-Of-Them.Q people.
