So our party has several locations throughout the country where people can go to for free medical care. Stuff like doctor check ups, prescriptions, minor treatment etc. The party decided to also have this org as a place where people can come to for help with their energy bills.
I decided that, since I already guide indebted people, I should volunteer at a location nearby. The stories you hear over there are so sad. Today I had a woman that had her energy bill go 5x in a few months and she can’t pay it. I called the customer care for her energy company and the advice I got was insane. They couldn’t lower it without her facing a 3.5k end bill that has to be paid in 12 parts max. That’s still 300+ extra monthly, on top of an already increased energy bill. Their other advice was, and I kid you not, to read THEIR FUCKING BLOG WITH 90 FUCKING TIPS ON HOW TO SAVE ENERGY. MADAM HAVE YOU CONSIDERED SAVING ENERGY???
It was a total fucking joke and if the guy on the phone was in the room with us I swear I would’ve beaten him. It’s a disgrace.
This is probably going to be the toughest year of my life so far, basically trying to rebuild my life from scratch. Reading theory and posts on here are the only things keeping me optimistic for the future. Here’s to a fruitful Juche 112, comrades.
normally the new year is a time for optimism, for making resolutions and having hope for the future. and while i remain optimistic about the long term future of humanity, that near term optimism is absent. living within the us becomes a lot more stressful once you realize the country is heading towards collapse, though if you ask me sooner is better than later.
Fuck something really weird happened to me today. I was driving on my way to my grandma place and there was a dude handcuffed begging for help, saw it at the last moment and i just kept driving i did not hesitate to stop and help him out of fear. Yesterday there was a major movement to capture one of the cartel leaders here in my state and the narcos went batshit insane, it was a warzone. Today it appears its over but i just saw this guy and i cant stop thinking about what i shouldve done, he begged for help and i refused to stop out of fear.
That’s rough mate but I don’t know what you could have done. If the guy was in trouble with the cartels or if he was with the cartels himself you would have been in enormous danger. It sounds hard but when you’re faced with potential death, you often times need to think about yourself first.
It’s 2023, and the sense of being trapped has intensified. Nowhere I’d actually be able to put my applications development/applied sciences degree to use would let me emigrate without stupid amounts of money I’ll never have in my life; but… God, you can’t even pay me to consider dying side-by-side with the average Amerikan ghoul anymore. I constantly ask whose sick idea it was for me to born in the belly of the Great Satan, and constantly think about routes out. I am so, fucking, tired.
TASS reports that supporters of Bolsonaro are taking over government buildings and clashing with police and that Da Silva himself is no longer in the capital. Any word on this?

I don’t know why embedding videos was disabled. As for uploading videos, I’m not sure if that was ever supported, probably due to the file sizes
I imagine that it was disabled because it’s impossible to distinguish video embedding HTML from any other HTML. It’s usually done with an iframe, which means you could put any site in there, including one that could automatically steal the user’s metadata immediately upon loading, while also playing the video so no one would know (or just youtube, which will also steal your metadata).
I’m not sure how advanced the markdown parser Lemmy uses is, but it may be possible to add special syntax for video embedding if the parser has support for that.
