13·21 hours agoWell you say that but HBO haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders lately on their own back.

3·1 day agoI do think that some people are being a bit harsh to you, but you’re making an extreme assessment of a show that you didn’t even get past the first episode of.

1·1 day agoI live in the UK. Being against the UK government is not considered a mental illness.

2·1 day agoThat’s not what they meant. You suggested that people who criticise the USSR automatically ignore human rights abuses from the USA (specifically - to black people). This is a baseless claim. How do you know that everyone who highlights USSR human rights abuses ignores USA human rights abuses?

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•A question about multi-communities (the new feature being tested)English
7·2 days agoDo you mean can feeds combine communities from different instances? My assumption would be yes.
My work?
I am just noting that Piefed is developing much faster right now than Lemmy.
Piefed communities are less active, and less likely to trend generally.
Upvotes are a means to an end for site visibility though, which is required to attain conversation in most cases.
It is possible. Piefed and Lemmy federate together.
As far as I know, if someone from lemmy.world is banned on lemmy.zip (an example) - they are only directly banned from lemmy.zip communities they have commented on. This is why the modlog shows users simultaneously banned from like a dozen comms at once from time-to-time - they’ve just been banned from an instance
But any communities on lemmy.zip that the user banned from lemmy.zip hasn’t commented on, they can still post there. It just doesn’t federate out.
That means a user from lemmy.world could be a nuisance on a lemmy.zip community without the local lemmy.zip mods noticing. This absolutely happens on piefed bans of lemmy users now, and I assume the same in reverse. I saw a user banned from piefed.social still posting on my television@piefed.social community from lemmy.world, but it just doesn’t federate out.

2·2 days agoPublic downvoting already negates the amount of downvotes here relative to reddit. I see no reason why the modlog doesn’t also serve the same function, dissuading mods from blatant abuse that would tank their reputation and potentially get them removed as community owners.
I haven’t noticed posts derailing off-topic anymore than I have on reddit.
What automated things did Reddit do here exactly in relation to the mod log?

21·2 days agoI mean the presence itself likely keeps moderators more honest that they might be on reddit. That isn’t to say the modlog is designed perfectly (it isn’t). But it’s far better than what Reddit has (nothing).
No, it’s different software.

31·3 days agoIt’s a lot less likely. Instance owners are closer to the management of the communities than Reddit admins are. Many would not accept it and remove moderators like that from their communities.

Too bad Matrix is just terrible.
There isn’t a decent Discord alternative rn
