Build your pc with at least 2 drives, with 1 drive ideally just for the operating system. Not the end of the world if you cannot afford that, but it does make things easier long term, the same applies to windows installs.

Ignore anyone who tells you to use mint as your distro, they are either trolling you, or trolling themselves, it’s trash.

Don’t expect to find the distro that suits you straight away.

Don’t judge all of linux based on the choices you initially make.

If you are coming from windows, the desktop environment ‘kde plasma’ should be your first choice (as opposed to gnome, xfce, cinnamon etc etc)

I don’t see any of those 3 as good, or even decent choices. I distrohopped initially, and did it again recently out of interest. Most people will just go off of searches, forum posts, and trashtubers though, which may lead them to believe that linux is crap due to ending up with crappy distros, and/or de’s

The variety of options are a pro, and a con, as are of course the opinions

It’s an odd (verbose/rambling) read, there is a lot hidden in the detail behind the plethora of choices

When you are first looking into linux, ubuntu still comes up a lot though, as does mint, and pop.

When getting into linux it was easy to remove ubuntu from the list due to them being like this.

Fedora considering ai earlier this year, and now debian talking about maybe slopping it too, is starting to creep me out even more about the future.

Your entire post and comment history revolves around you being anti-China, even when you are posting in opposition to Russia etc, it is only because of ties with China.

I read 1, 7, and 8, as they appeared to be the options not just saying ‘ai yay’. I stopped reading each of those options when they appeared to turn into contrary bullshit. I very briefly scanned some of the other options.

None of them appeared to prohibit the inclusion of ai. The verbosity comes across as deliberate, rather than informative to me, knowing how much people scan these days.

I have debian installed on my 2 pc’s, but do not actively use it, and this would be my first insight/interaction with the people behind it, and the ‘community’. If this poll is the 1st step in the process, I have to question why the 1st step was not simply ai: yes, or no. With a result of yes = empty partitions where I used to have debian.

ai was always going to be manipulated/controlled by bad people, no doubt there are people out there who see ai as the beacon of truth for some deluded reason, and their number is likely to increase in time as ai says ‘trust me bro’.

Is that a real question, or do you use ai?
