I’m still trying to reach my potential two hours of workout daily, only doing one hour of things that makes me sweat.

I have alarms on my phone set every three hours to remind me to stop and do something

There was a change in USA tax code that lead to many layoffs in the United States. Companies could no longer write off programmer’s salaries and benefits if they were doing pure research. It went from a yearly deduction on corporate tax to something very delayed. Making it effectively gone.

The tax code had been allowed for generations, then suddenly the companies had to actually pay the programmers instead of the federal government reimbursing them

I think it underscores how little each of us understands this very complex society, even when it’s being wrecked

In east Texas, near the gulf, it used to snow enough to cover the ground for more than a day, or have frozen rain that made the ground icy, at least once a year. I think the last good storm like that was many years ago

Classic politics, an example why reform cannot be from elections

Most new graduates develop their skills after college. Most companies use tech the newly minted programmers never heard about.

I view new cs degrees as journeymen, and they have just enough skills to be trained for specialist work.

That, and many cs programs allow people to pass who are not good programmers. Often many change careers after their first job.

I think it’s good. Any sort of community protection and networking can inspire actions elsewhere. I can only hope it increases.

But I am not sure how much of this will be remaining once the current danger goes away. Hopefully there will be long term benefits which stay when people are less threatened

The main danger to most Americans, at this point, is for the sense of danger to go away.

Because what is killing most of us, and ruining lives, is the quiet stuff: lack of food, threats to shelter, illness, powerlessness, being virtual slaves economicly. This kills millions of Americans each year, while the current drama is only hurting hundreds of thousands at the same time.

It is very possible for there to be a renewed sense of false security and for the economy to not be trashed. Tens of millions of people would sink down into apathy again and there will be no chance of reform or positive change.

More people would live longer and be happier if things got really bad, because then there would be real change in many positive directions.

I think there will be an evolution during the next few months and years. But it cannot be applied to action until there is community restructuring.

There has to be a new way of doing things at the towns and cities across the country. Political change must happen at the smallest levels first.

I think only when people start being different in how they interact with their neighbors, can community change occur. So I am looking for that.

But, usually it takes a bad economic collapse to kick-start that much community reorganization.

Middle America has a lot of unmet needs, with a horrible health care system and food insecurity. Most will gladly embrace anything that may help.

What many see as crazy politics is a desperate attempt to latch onto anything remotely promising.

I find a variety of activities help distribute the loads

I often push my older body when it’s not used to work. This means I pull a muscle once every few weeks, often in my upper body; or demand too much in my knees.

Fortunately I can heal in a week or two, but I definitely am slow to heal compared to before.

Which is why I am communist and not anarchist. To fight capitalism one must organize much more than anarchy movements could .

They were hungry. I watched a video about hungry people lining up to receive free food; and when I walked outdoors there were 4 5 furry beings who the neighbors had not fed.

I had no pet food, so I went to buy a big bag and made sure they had all they could eat

15,000 people waiting for hours, in the rain, to receive free food? Wow!!!

I do computer programming, mostly on stuff the ai coding tools totally fail at; when I saw how much these same tools are pushed by large companies, I felt contempt .

That, and I studied neural networks in grad school, quite a few years ago. The current AI stuff do not awe me

Basically this. Most people are decent enough, that is they are not trying to burn down the world. Many, including me, have unclear ideas about what is happening. Often, people use opposing words and history to really mean the same goals.

But it’s exhausting figuring it out for more than friends and people in my echo groups. So I don’t usually try. They have to be worth it to me.

That said, this is for the mental stuff. When it comes to political actions that need to be done now, and cannot wait, things are different. There is a time crunch then. And it’s not about tolerance , but results.
