The connection will be large enough to carry enough renewable electricity to power two million homes.
Is renewable electricity somehow different from normal electricity? Are there now two national grids, one for electricity and one for renewable electricity? 🙄
Well renewable energy is green, so you don’t want it mixing with grey energy.
And definitely don’t want it mixing with blue hydrogen! ZOMG what a clash! Fashion police alert!
Teal electricity? Nasty!
Scotland claims to be pretty close to 100% renewable (inc. nuclear) (even up to 113% apparently) but it’s complicated since they export a lot, so “generating 100% of what the country consumes” isn’t the same as not using gas.
At the other end, Drax is well known for being a coal power station, and the electric connections extending out from Yorkshire that were traditionally powered by coal power stations will now be fed from this new link instead.
I get what’s happening, I’m just lamenting the BBC’s reporting, which matches electricity companies’ marketing in its absurdity, if not outright dishonesty. One cannot “switch” to “green electricity” like one can switch Internet providers.
