There’s a video within the article right here.
I subscribed to the channel as well; glad I found it.
The video itself is 46 minutes and 21 seconds.
Your thoughts?
What do you all think?
I’m not watching a 46 minute YouTube video, but I think the effort in certain camps to demonstrate Marx was an ecosocialist to be misguided and pointless.
I’m not saying he was or wasn’t, I’m saying who cares what Marx thought about it and how exactly is that meaningful in the face of a climate crisis. Marxism isn’t a list of things Marx said, and Marxism is perfectly capable of addressing ecological concerns in a meaningful way.
The Marxist theory Malm offers in Fossil Capital (2016) are functionally useful in a way that metabolic rift theory generally isn’t. Honestly respect to Bellamy Foster but I think metabolic rift theory is kind of facile in comparison.
I disagree, but to each their own.
Why do you think it’s important whether Marx was an ecosocialist or not?
I don’t.
What do you disagree about?
I’d rather not say. I’m trying to avoid arguments for now.
