The Most Frightening Question: “Why Should I Join?” - Pennsylvania Masons

If you’re like me, there are certain things that make you very uncomfortable — actually afraid to be honest. My personal fears include snakes, tall heights and liver with onions. But near the top of that list would be the question from a potential member: “Why should I join the Freemasons?” What makes me squirm is

Why did you join? Friends? Family? Brotherhood? Esoteric knowledge?

What motivated you to join, or what helped to make the decision?

    Curiosity at first. Then finding out I have various family members who were or are Masons. Upon petitioning I found out I liked the brotherhood aspect.

    All of the male family members are Freemasons, so, it is “the family tradition.” Also, met a lot of great individuals who are friends for life.

    Great article! I guess I initially joined based on a few friends who said I should join. I always had a propensity to the mysteries and quickly became very invested into the fraternity.
