After what was probably between 20 and 40 years of my Scout troop not cleaning their stoves, I decided to have a go at one of them. To put things simply, this is the result. I probably messed up, the degreaser was supposed to be completely biodegradable/paint safe, so I don’t know if this is the result of the serious grease buildup (there was a disgusting amount) or my own stupidity. Either way, I have two options. Tossing it and replacing it, or attempting to refinish it. I read online about refinishing them and a I got the impression that I could just strip it down and use a heat resistant/rust resistant paint. Obviously it wouldn’t be as good as the powder coating, but my question is if it would work at all? If so, where can I find some paint online? Everywhere I looked either has super pricey paint or the wrong color, which I suppose I could resort to if needed.

Any and all comments appreciated! Even if it’s just to tell me I’m an idiot!

Of course you can repaint it. It’s just metal.strip all the old paint off and Use primer for a more even finish. be sure to remove the burners//fully dissemble before you start.

Something like this should work. Finding the same color is probably going to be difficult. I’d probably just paint the whole thing (or at least the outside).
