I refuse to discuss politics with anyone IRL unless they reveal their income level. Surprise, the 100k/yr seniored manager thinks the economy works fine on his machine! What am I ever going to get out of that conversation?

That one is revealing to me. To me it seems they can’t even push past the imaginary boundary in their own mind. To me, not even being able to imagine something different (let alone something better, even in the imaginary realm) shows how the material world has handcuffed their understanding. Good faith or bad faith it doesn’t really matter, not being able to perceive the possibility of something different is so confidently stupid and morally bleak.
It’s simultaneously infuriating, sad, and just kind of pathetic.
