Capitalism rewards those who control more capital. Period.

Goods, materials, labor sources, infrastructure, intellectual property, supply chains, real estate, contracts, and political influence. The more of all of that you control, the more you reap financial rewards.

The most idealistic view of capitalism is that you earn such reward by improving the world and providing what people need. You invent a product, process, IP, etc. and people pay you money for materially improving their lives or meeting a need.

But that is far from the only way to gain such control. Using your massive wealth to gain political influence. Using both your wealth and political influence to buy or destroy your competition. Using unethical methods like collusion to remove choice from consumers, to force them to buy your product, to raise prices because you can.

Hell, you can even do everything to destroy a good productive company and still make bank. David Zaslav at Warner Bros is proving that you can buy a profitable company, merge it with a company in massive debt, put that debt on the profitable company, use that debt to justify massive cuts that make the company less productive with fewer profit streams including cancelling finished movies for tax write-offs, destroy the stock valuation of the company screwing over the shareholders, force a new sale/merger to a MAGA billionaire to save the company, and fly away from the wreckage on your $886 million dollar golden parachute richer than when you started.

A 16 year old barista does much more to contribute to society than David Zaslav did, but the rewards are not even close.

I have Android 16 installed. Searching the settings doesn’t show any feature called “notification cooldown”

It would probably take a separate app to override the notification behavior.

None of my friends or family use WhatsApp.

I do that too, but I only want my actual favorites through if I’m, say, in a work meeting, or at the movies or something when I might turn on my Do Not Disturb. If my wife or mom needs to get ahold of me, they can. But I don’t want to be that restricted just for a car ride if a friend wants to call and talk or a work colleague has an issue or something.

The thing that most annoys me is that there is no way I have found to limit the frequency of notifications, particularly for group chats which sometimes send rapid-fire notifications as a conversation starts that I’m not a part of.

I’m driving, I can’t read and reply to texts, I’m listening to an audio book, and I just keep getting my book interrupted with pings and it keeps repeating the same phrase over and over. I don’t want to put my phone on Do Not Disturb because I still want to be available for a phone call, and I don’t want to forget and leave the phone in DND after I’m done driving. That shouldn’t be the only fix.

There should be a way to limit notifications to only occur once every X seconds/minutes. If I haven’t grabbed my phone to check the first 3 notifications in the last 6 seconds, why would the 4th one be necessary? If 3 more notifications would have pinged in that time, too bad. They can all just collectively shut up until that time limit has passed.

I’ve been told that this sort of feature exists on some devices but I have found no way to do it on my Samsung S24.

It is fine to have a different experience and taste in games. But The Last Of Us is absolutely not a Walking Sim. For one thing, Walking Sims, by definition, have no combat. You just walk around and explore a place and uncover a story along the way. TLOU is filled with stealth combat and 3rd person shooting, survival horror style resource management, as well as exploration and an unfolding story.

I think what you mean is that you dislike Narrative-driven adventure games. Walking Sims are a sub-genre of narrative driven games, but not all narrative driven games are Walking Sims. The Last Of Us is an narrative- driven action-adventure survival-horror game.

Well, consider me brainwashed by evangelicals then. Non-evangelicals really need to step up their PR game.

Catholics do not believe that non-Christians go to heaven. Best case scenario, righteous unbelievers go to purgatory. Same with unbaptised babies.

Also, I grew up going to baptist and pentecostal churches. They 1000% do not think my atheist ass is getting into heaven no matter how righteous I am, even though I got baptized for that matter. Unless I repent at the 11th hour and “accept Jesus into my heart as my savior,” anyway. There are certainly plenty denominations that are not all about preaching “hellfire for the unbeliever”, but even plenty of those still believe that is true even if they’re not boasting about it. There are some that allow for people to be saved through ignorance of Jesus (which makes missionary work kind of fucked up when you think about it that way). But even that is not the norm.

Jesus’ sacrifice saving humanity from eternal damnation is a key tenet of nearly all denominations. And most of them also say that you need to actually accept it and turn your life over to him to qualify for the get out of Hell free card.

There is no way that most people didn’t pick the correct religion. Even if all Christians were “correct” enough to get to heaven regardless of denomination, that still leaves 71%+ of the world who aren’t Christians. And that is best case scenario as Christians are the largest religious group by population in the world currently. And even within the Christian community, there are plenty of in-groups and out-groups that consider one another to be cultish and blasphemy. No matter what you are betting, your chances aren’t great and the majority of the world is still “wrong” and will face whatever consequences come with that fact.

Personally, I’m happy to just not believe rather than to force myself to conform to some oppressive dogma, dump my time and money into a church, and live with shame just to hedge my bets for what would still be bad odds anyway.
