People used to Twitter often look at Mastodon, think ‘what is this weirdo shit?’, and return, as they don’t see what they’re used to.

Well, that may be the case for many people. But to be honest I was surprised to see this attitude from Void mods and users. I mean, we are privacy conscious people, we know what FOSS means and we generally care about it, otherwise I think we wouldn’t use Void, right?

Void is the “weirdo shit” for most people, I mean…we already are a niche just for using Linux. But Void it’s peculiar even compared to other Linux distros. It’s super minimal, it has a unique package manager, it doesn’t even use systemd, it’s almost halfway between Linux and NetBSD. I mean we are the niche of the niche.

Therefore I thought that the majority of people there were used to search for alternatives, and to learn to love weirdo shit.

So, while I do expect this attitude coming from a more generalist community, I must say I have been genuinely surprised to find it on r/voidlinux.
