So the puppy has chewed my Mum’s phone screen, stopping both the display AND touch sensor on half of it.

I’m trying to back up photos and contacts from internal storage. I’ve got a USB hub which I can connect a mouse to that seems to work, but the HDMI output from it isn’t working. It’s not showing as no signal though, it’s connected with a completely black screen.

The phone has been turned off and I can’t unlock it, so I’m wondering if this is a result of the system still being locked? If this is against the “no lock screen bypass help” rule, just let me know and I’ll delete it.

The model of phone is a Huawei P30 Pro.

Any help would be appreciated

I think you have to appove it, If you’ve got a usb adapter you could try plugging in a usb mouse, That way you could unlock the screen and at least upload to cloud storage using the mouse instead of the touch screen, not sure if that’s blocked from the lock screen as well though

Edit: Just tried on my P30 Pro, a usb mouse can be used on the lock screen to unlock, so that would be the way to go :)

The mouse works, but the display is broken to the point I can’t make out anything else other than that. I can’t even make out if there’s an approval prompt for me to guess where to press…

It’s going in for a repair, but I’m slightly worried they’ll just send back a new phone instead of repairing just the screen. They specifically say to back up data, my guess is either because of this or risk of damaging the phone. Might just have to take the chance on this one ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yea, I’m pretty sure what happens is that you need to tap on something to enable MHL out, which obviously is not going to work in your case. If the mouse is working try to use it blindly through trial-and-error? xD

Are you sure that usually the HDMI adapter worked? Usually they never work except some few specific phones

You need to see the screen with scrcpy trying to enable adb with the mouse (and on Huawei phones there’s an additional permission)

The only way I can tell is that my TV doesn’t say no signal. AFAIK it is receiving a signal, but it’s completely black…

The USB adapter is a lemorele TC70L if it makes any difference

I just checked the tiny text on the MHL cable I have (never been used since I have none of those devices) and it seems you’re gucci with your P30

Like others say, blind tapping might be the best option here and if @elver@feddit.uk can share a screenshot of where that clicky is…bingo?
