But thats the secret, its all political.

The reasons things are the way they are usually has politics underneath, as well as the reasons people push to keep things that way.

Usually if you don’t see the politics you either already agree with the underlying politics or need to look harder.

And generally its easier/more effective to deal with the root cause than simply try and address the symptoms.

So, to be clear, we can only make things political when they can be changed? No other time?

Just block the sub and move on then dude. Its clearly not for you. Fuck cars is political in America because the manufacturers have been lobbying our government for decades.

History is political. Current grant funding by the feds tilts the scales on cities - why pay 100% of the price of a light rail system when the feds will pay 75-100% of a new road.

To elected officials it looks great - pretend you’re doing something and not pay for it. Avg tax payers don’t understand that more roads (and esp parking lots) actually make it so more places are only accessible by roads so it raises congestion and commutes and commute times. But hey you built a road and now you’re campaigning for state office what do you care?

Rail projects and other good infrastructure projects get cancelled and resurface all the time in my country. Guess who cancels them?

Spoiler: Not engineers or city planners. Go on, take a guess.
