Well yeah, the admins can ban a user if they feel like it. It’s literally their website.

that’s your reasoning, yet you’re for defederating from “fascists”

Pretty silly thing to say. Nobody has to allow you to have an account on their private Lemmy server. They’re not banning anyone from all of Lemmy and can’t do so. If you don’t like their policies and they don’t like you, go somewhere else. Also, I have not made any statement about the defederation proposal.

          Exactement!

And if you are the kind of bar owner who says to the patrons: “just ignore the nazi punks in the corner if you don’t like them, or go argue with them, I don’t care!” – then maybe you have a nazi bar. If you’re the owner of a nazi bar, are you embodying conviviality? Tolerance?

Please research “the paradox of tolerance”.

i think i wasn’t clear enough in my previous comment. My comment was about the “Well yeah, the admins can ban a user if they feel like it. It’s literally their website.” mentality.

Admins too should adhere to community rules and they shouldn’t be able to ban users because “they feel like it”.

Whole MAGA approach to politics is “we’re doing it because we feel like it.” No coherence, no intelligible reasons, no accountability. Just a “feel like it”.

i’m not criticising admins either. This post shows that they don’t act on a “feel like it” and they’re polling the user base.

i’'ve been online long enough to know that communities/sites belong to users even when servers and domains belong to a person. Every time an “owner” of a community website started to act like users are tolerated guests on their servers, the whole community degenerated and dried up.

and that’s why i’m hopeful about fediverse.
