I actually saw something recently that brought up that they were flexible in ways and you were able to sit just fine in them. Also a lot of restrooms for the time were chamber pots and it would be normal to just pop a chamber pot under a dress anyway
I googled if these had any practical uses, like maybe for ventilation or something. Nope. Just fashion.

I saw a documentary about Versailles once that explained how much it stank, because sometimes people wouldn’t even bother to search for a chamber pot.
