    Europa Universalis IV

That’s a game that I went from avid player to not remembering that it exists. Power creep, poor design decisions, gross disregard to regions based on where Paradox gets money from, ditching believability for the sake of railroading, obnoxious DLC and sales policies… frankly nowadays I place Paradox in the same bag as EA and Game Freak + The Pokémon Company as “they don’t deserve my money”, because of how poorly they handled EU4.

Interesting. I have more than 1500 hours on it and I think the last few DLCs are way way better than usual. A lot more content, a lot more creativity. However, I also stopped playing after — IIRC — version 1.30. That version made the game something like 3 times less performant (or rather, things took 3 times the time they took previously), and it was already slow to begin with.

That completely killed the game for me.

As someone who’s big into Victoria 2, CK3, and HOI4, I really want to get into this game. But DAMN is there an absolute fuckton of DLC

Europa Universalis is possibly the only thing where I am okay with a subscription model. When the itch takes me, I subscribe for a month for 5 buckazoids or whatever the sum is, then immediately cancel. Typically by next month I’m no longer interested. That’s a lot better than paying, what, 200 euros for all non-cosmetic DLC.
