as if hitting a literal download button “supports sickos like this”.

some thoughts that popped up in my head when i saw this video were:

-i initially thought people were buying this on the basis that this was the only source code release (i’d misremembered) but it took too long for this video to clarify that 4chan was the one who’d released the source code first. if the predator in question were the one to have leaked the source code first, i feel shitlibs like these would straight up reject it just because it happens to be from a predator. “don’t get your files from the 'philes!” oh yeah? if a child predator were to cure cancer, would you reject the invention? you’d rather millions and billions die just because the inventor was a bad individual? fucking pathetic.

-technically, what would a predator even do to a downloadable file? he has not changed it, it is only the source from which you are getting it with which you are concerned. but your anger tells me we should apply the same principle everywhere. so you might as well buy nothing at all, because they’re all from exploitative corporations, just as these predators exploit children; after all, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. i can see where your emotions arise, but it is clear that people are downloading from steam just for convenience. they have no care as to who they got the downloads from. if you care so much, why don’t you boycott all the goods produced by capitalists?

-reiterating once again, it is clear that people are downloading this copy of the minecraft legacy edition only out of convenience. they do not wish to learn how to compile the source code that 4chan has released. you can ramble about tech illiteracy all you want, but think about the demographic who’s downloading this: probably just bored teenagers who don’t want to have to pay for actual minecraft, and they just want to conveniently press a few download and install buttons to get the game up and running. they don’t want to bother with all this drama just because your dogma wants people to be bothered to go through the complicated route of learning how to compile source code just to avoid specifically downloading files from a predator.

essentially, hitting the download button isn’t going to “support” an online predator. but these absolute sheep in the comments section are frolicking high as shit in their moral high ground that they believe they have over just not clicking a few buttons. guess what, shitlibs, those buttons don’t do shit. reminds me of that one scene in the show “the good place” where some dude goes to the bad place (aka just hell) just for buying roses for his grandma, but those roses just so happened to be unethically sourced.

a comment that also ticked me off here was “there is no difference between supporting a [pedophile] and being one”. oh yeah? well, how do you define “supporting a pedophile”? clicking buttons, that’s all? and you think it’s up to the individual to endlessly boycott every service that’s ever been made and never thinking about the system that gave rise to pedophilic acts in the first place?

      Minecraft is a video game. Legacy is the free version (earlier version) of the game, when it was first released. (Since then, there’s been tons of new content that’s been added to make up a full game)

      From context clues, I’m assuming there was a known pedophile that hosted this free version of Minecraft. And there’s outrage that kids are getting free shit from pedophiles.

        yep, and the outrage is specifically just “HOW DARE YOU GET IT FROM A PEDO!!!” while failing to realize that the average joe just wanting free minecraft is NOT concerned with that, and plus to be outraged by that anyway is ABSURDLY stupid because downloading that minecraft copy isn’t going to “support” the pedo materialistically in any way whatsoever, and it’s also hypocritical too because by their ideals (they being the people seething from others getting those free copies) they should be boycotting everything because the rich are pedophiles

      essentially, i just hate when shitlibs suddenly think the average bored joe is suddenly somehow as bad as epstein just because they download something from a creator that circumstantially happens to be a predator. and i hate when they think that simply not downloading it is enough to somehow magically do anything about the predator. i’ve encountered FARRRRR too many people who are so incomprehensibly dogmatic and idealistic, being like “IF YOU HAVE FUN THE WRONG WAY YOU’RE LITERALLY HITLER” and this youtube short which i’m speaking about is an instance of precisely that. to re-establish the context once again, 4chan made a release of minecraft legacy’s source code, and someone (who happens to be an online predator) has compiled it for users to easily download and play on steam. the steam redistributed version of this copy was quickly taken down, but people who did download it or wished to download it said they would’ve downloaded it anyway regardless of whether the person who compiled and redistributed it happened to be a predator or not, and it got this youtuber ABSOLUTELY SEETHING, because people didn’t magically just go “OMG I HAVE TO STOP THIS PREDATOR RIGHT NOW!!!” because that is NOT what’s on their minds; what’s on their minds is that “oooh a pre-compiled copy of minecraft legacy for me to download and play, neat” but then this dogmatic idealistic youtuber’s like “HOW DARE YOU DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION! I DON’T CARE THAT IT WAS CONVENIENT, YOU DOWNLOADED FROM A PEDOPHILE!” while it is clear that downloading a literal copy of minecraft doesn’t have any material impact on supporting said predator, neither does it act as an endorsement of their actions. essentially, i’m saying this youtuber’s crashout here is stupid and pointless and all the commenters are sheep for not realizing that it doesn’t fucking matter and you don’t have to gouge the eyes out of anyone who has downloaded that copy just because they didn’t feel that same ABSOLUTELY SEETHING anger toward the pedophile just for the moral high ground. i hate dogma, i hate idealism, and i ABSOLUTELY hate when people get so horrifically reactionary when people are trying to live their lives, going “OMG YOU JUST BOUGHT OR DOWNLOADED OR RECEIVED THIS THING FROM THIS EVIL SOURCE!!!” like holy shit calm the fuck down we just want to live our lives you can’t expect us to INDIVIDUALLY just boycott everything from people who exploit, you can’t just point out all the technical “wrongs” we’re doing, you can’t just be like trotsky who made a 10 year old cry over wearing a red scarf instead of a red tie. in essence, i hate when people do this kind of thing

    Tangentially related, but Luanti / VoxeLibre is free Minecraft for Linux with tons of mods.

    BTW, the company which developed Minecraft, Mojang, was bought by Microsoft. Its owner, Bill Gates, is another PedoFiles villain. Not to mention a monopolistic, capitalist pig.

      no, i was angry because the people in the video were way too outraged and conflated people who just wanted to download a redistributed and precompiled copy of software for free with people who were complicit with the behavior of the individual who redistributed it (because the individual in question just so happened to be a pedophile and zoophile). and the comments of the video were blindly agreeing with his argument, despite the fact that clearly hitting the download button does not materialistically support nor endorse the individual’s behavior in question.

    Liberals try to make it all about consumption, so people don’t think about their relation to production, as that would make them class conscious.

    And of course this isn’t even consumption, but usage. But liberals worship copyright holders, so they try to conflate the two.

    The copyright ghouls, they want poor people to perpetually suffer. Free stuff prevents that, so they will smear it, invent weird purity stuff, block it, make it illegal, try to take it down, anything so poor people won’t get free stuff. But they can’t win. And the more their oppression breaks down, the louder and more unhinged they get.
