Phones companies do not care to update, people do not care to update either. On iOS updates are harassing me every day to be done. Luckily on my android phone I have a community behind that updates custom Roms since a long time

Yeah, this is still bad. Mind, its better than it used to be but still not where it needs to be. Those modules have made needing the latest a bit less important for sure, but there is still no excuse. That may just be how these things go. Apple gets such high adoption because they have such a tight hold over both hardware and software
