minus-squarePons_Aelius@kbin.sociallinkfedilinkarrow-up7·edit-21 year ago Defence spending will account for almost a third of all outlays in 2024 – up 68 per cent to 10.8 trillion rubles (€109 billion). One of the leading causes of the collapse of the USSR was that their defence spending rose to ~35% of GDP in an effort to keep up with the USA/West. Obviously 1/3 of gov spending <> 1/3 of GDP but it is still ridiculously high and spending on other areas will have to be drastically cut back. The irony for me is it is the USSR’s massive over production of military hardware that is being destroyed in Ukraine.
