I would say that the pillaging of the Soviet Union’s resources and infrastructure to create the modern state of Russia and the other former SSR states was infact a massive tragedy with apocalyptic decrease in life expectancy and quality, but I feel like this guy would get incredibly upset if you mentioned that.
Basically being a bothsider but ultimately benefitting the status quo (Israeli genocide of Palestinians). Also, we support anti-imperialist movements and the right of Palestinians to exist: Hamas being one of the main resistance groups against Israel should be supported in this context.
This person fails in their understanding of imperialism (I feel like there is also another concept in Marxism that explains why we should support resistance against greater contradictions like supporting a national bourgeois revolution fighting off neoimperialism or whatever … did Mao say something about that?).
I don’t think most nation-states were founded on genocide, built with racialized slavery, and have continuously been genocidal and systemically racist for their entire lifespan. Yankee exceptionalism has something to it in that regard, it’s rare to be that fucked up in your origins and keep at it for 200+ years with the only end in sight being an imperial decline that’s plausibly on track to become so bad the project can’t keep going as is, no matter what its participants want.
