I also wonder if there was not pressure from the WotC people too.
Basically they launched a Kickstarter to animate a few episodes of their first campaign, raised a trillion dollars from excited fans, and during production signed with Amazon for streaming it. They limited the backers to the first two episodes, viewable live, once, and if they wanted to watch the rest of the show they’d backed they would have to have Amazon prime video to do so.
