The only way to get an appointment is to spend several days to potentially weeks calling the clinic at exactly the time they open and praying. The idea of even high-risk patients getting a house call regularly by a doctor is laughable. Anything slightly serious will get you put on a years long waiting list that is essentially a lottery on whether you will outlast the people in front of you. Sometimes even I fall for the idea that this is normal, that the decline of the NHS is some natural cycle out of the hands of people that we must endure. Then I see what Cuba, a country that has been under siege for decades, achieves with so little and it snaps me right back to reality.
