National Socialism was a real thing, at least in so far as it stood between international socialism (the left) and monarchism (the right).
Most modern Atlantic state economies could best be described as some flavor of national socialism, even the profoundly fascist ones. The goal of the economic model is to enrich the (ethnically favored) domestic citizenry, largely at the expense of everyone else.
But modern conservatives hold the title entirely as an anarchonism. They aren’t culturally, economically, or ecologically conservative in the least. A lot of that comes from the seizure of party organs by a mix of revolutionary theocrats and techno-utopian anarcho-capitalists.
The party of Lincoln, Roosevelt, and even Eisenhower is dead. They’re not even in control of the same territory anymore, having swapped places with the Democrats during the Reagan Era.
Democrats would better fit the definition of conservative. Many of them are conservatives from the Bush Era. Republicans are fully in the thrall of a revolutionary campaign, even explicitly calling for Constitutional Convention and a full reimagining of the founding document.
Conservative as in the rich keeping their money in their pockets and making more unregulated without any distribution of wealth to the lower class. It has nothing to do with anything other than money because capitalism literally doesn’t care about anything else.
Conservative politics means keep doing the same thing expecting nothing bad will happen. Preferably we should do whatever we did 100 years ago because that was obviously better.
No, that’s misinformation. Conservatism is and always has been about preserving and defending social hierarchy. It is only “we should do what they did on the past” by coincidence because what they did in the past was monarchy.
