I still remember the first time my mind went quite. I thought quieting your mind just referred to the core of it. Pushing the noise out and away, where you can ignore it. Having it go both silent and calm was… odd, but nice.

It rarely happens now, but I at least now have a reference for how noisy my mind is.

yeah it came back after a few months but it’s under my control now. it’s so weird to know other people don’t have to deal with it.

Mine lasts for a couple of minutes tops, before the screaming comes back.

It’s definitely weird to think that some people don’t have that to draw inspiration from.

Ackshually, this is because of quietening the mind. It was too quietened and too unnerving, so the loudening was on purpose, out of fear.

Sound machines help. When Im having trouble sleeping because my mind won’t shut up I play some green noise and that often does the trick.

What the therapist probably actually did was guide you through an exercise to practice mindfulness. Whether you were game for that or not is a different question

As someone who supports psychotherapy practice: You’re massively underestimating how bad many therapists are. Even in regions where it is fairly strictly regulated, its not rare to find psychotherapists with no idea what they’re doing and/or no care for their clients, nonetheless without a more comprehensive understanding of neurodivergence or trauma. Far, far too many treat psychotherapy as a checklist of CBT activities, ignoring the needs of individual clients or the contexts of their concerns.

Again, psychotherapy is useful, proven to be effective, and generally good, but its not at all rare to have terrible therapists, or to have those that don’t “click” with you. Statememts like,

Whether you were game for that or not is a different question

just make you look like an elitist asshole, and discredits the field, particularly to those who have had similar experiences (which is not a small number of people).

Edit: Although to be extra clear, if the therapist if asking you this question, they probably don’t know what they’re doing.
