I’m in the market to get a completely fresh set of winter clothing, but what materials should I be looking for and which companies should I be buying from? I’ve heard good things about Merino wool and alpaca fur, but a lot of that stuff is mixed with synthetics. Anything completely compostable out there?

Entirely compostable I don’t know. But I have a recycle wool shirt from Patagonia that is the best.
Depending from where your winter is you’ll need some synthetic fiber in your coat so it don’t get all wet. However there’s some wool coat but forget playing in the snow with those.
Yea that synthetic shell is pretty important for water proofing. Are there any other brands you’ve seen that could be interestimg?
Personally I really love my old winter parka from Helly Henson. After 10 years it have sustained a wide range of winters and keep my dry even today. However HH have been bought by a financial fund and I see their Enshitification coming
Patagonia is now own by a trust fund that the old owner have set up with protecting the environment in their bylaw IIRC. They have sales that have normally worth to check out
