I find it funny this whole movie that’s an allegory for racism, is also just randomly racist against Nigerians
I love NB’s work, even if others don’t, that’s fine, he speaks to me as someone that grew up with flicks like Aliens and The Thing.
I wish they’d given him a chance to make some of the stuff that ended up not making it through development. Sigourney Weaver said she wanted to do an Alien sequel with him, which would almost certainly have been more interesting than Alien: Covenant. He was attached to a Robocop film that didn’t get made, and I think he’d have been able to make something cool with that. There was also a short released years ago called The Leviathan that was going to get made into a feature, but didn’t end up happening. I remember seeing the short and being pretty wowed by it.
I have mixed feelings about the stuff he’s actually released post-District 9, but given the absolute dreck that’s been consistently pumped out over the last few years, I realize I’ve been spoiled. We should be so lucky to have more filmmakers like Blomkamp who have some vision and imagination.

He would have at least understood the original was a critique of the direction of society and cops. Everything from that franchise in the last 20 years has totally misunderstood what it is and devolved into WOOW LOOK COOL FUTURE… Like the only thing absorbed by anyone involved was the aesthetics and not the fact that corpos can gun down people in the boardroom and suffer no consequences.

We need to leave Robocop and every other Verhoeven project alone (let someone make his scrapped Crusades movie and likely doomed Life of Jesus movie after he’s gone, though!)

I would’ve agreed up until recently but now he’s pivoting to making “AI movies”.
