And the content of the videos will have as much anti-China propaganda as possible. Or the issues will be framed in such a way as to align with the Western narratives regarding China.

I tend to see a lot of these Chinese diaspora YouTubers making videos relating heavily to China, and just spout nonsensical drivel that you would probably find on CNN. Their only reason for having some credibility in the eyes of westerners is that they are Chinese too, so they must be “tapped in”. But these people are more australian, canadian or whatever… Also not saying you cannot criticize China, but they are without nuance or correctness, in the end all it does is serve empire, highlight or overstate problems, or misrepresent China (and by proxy Socialism).

Kissing the ass of white supremacists is a sadly common thing for minorities over here, especially if they’re Chinese. We have a huge Falun Gong presence in Australia, wouldn’t surprise me if this guy is a member. There’s a reason a lot of anti-China “human rights watch” type organisations originate in Australia, our government and our billionaires are eager to destroy our relationship with our largest trading partner to please our American overlords, they’re always working overtime to make sure we can be even more hateful and racist than any of their other vassals.

Born in Canada to coffee monopoly-owning parents who ‘escaped’ (why would they want to keep you) the cultural revolution. Lately, seen a huge amount of PragerU ads and what-not-diarrhea propaganda too… the NED must be giving out quite a bit of checks.

*Australia. Sorry. Same shit anyways lol

There are lots of bad videos on YouTube that I see in thumbnails. A bad part is that VideoDownloadHelper doesn’t seem to be working at the moment.

      Why VideoDownloadHelper exactly?

I wish there was a way to tailor my feed better.

I get too many bad videos, many of them with a right-wing bent.

Oh wait, no, VDH is not related to the feed I get. The point of having YouTube on the computer is to find something actually good and then download it, so that’s why VDH not working was such a big problem.

I don’t think you need to tailor your feed. If you get reactionary videos you can criticize them. Ofc that would mean downloading the videos, which again I cannot do at the moment.

My advice is to not really use YouTube and instead use sites like these: prolewiki redsails mia

I suspect that these waves of recommendation might have been intentionally pushed by the propaganda machine. In the past, it was a wave of right-wing and neoliberal narratives. When that no longer work (for the majority of people), they retreat to more subtle and less overt narratives (such as this type of videos).

When liberals and fascist narratives no longer work to dissuade people from communism, libs suddenly become More Communist Than Anyone and break out the Ultra narratives

I found that some of it was at least a unique perspective on Chinese cultural stuff, but the political compass thing where he was saying Xi’s “”“faction”“” was “larping still being communist” just demonstrated a very poor Western style understanding on actual chinese politics

Having seen several of this guy’s videos I genuinely have no idea what you people are talking about.

He’s literally pro-China and is combatting Sinophobic misinformation lmao. There’s always a dozen or so reddit-brained comments accusing him of being paid by the CPC. His videos are very clearly geared toward a Western, liberal/left audience and made more palatable for them to consume as a consequence. Naturally this means they’re not gonna be the kind of stuff Hakim & co. put out.

Maybe actually watch the videos with a critical lens before coming up with these goofy conclusions.

Media literacy is dead, I swear.

I watched his videos. That racist thing and that Epstein thing. Both were one-sided. Both painted a grim picture, a hopeless picture.

For the Chinese Epstein video, his framing was that the Chinese justice system and the Chinese government are hopelessly corrupt. The powerful protect the powerful. The powerful blackmail the powerful. And that it is only after some guy having “sought asylum” in the US that the whole thing was exposed. He also made it as if the fight on corruption is not about corruption, that it is was about factional purges first.

For the racism video. And I need the more knowledgeable people to verify this. There are comments under his video accusing him of misrepresenting the case where the Hong Kong man (in USA) shot an African-American kid. That the Hong Kong man did not merely shoot the kid out of fear and reflect. That he pursued and shot the kid. This in effect also stirred a lot of Black reactionary sentiments which advocate fighting racism with racism (they’ll be racist against other minority groups too). Furthermore, Han Chauvinism and ultra-nationalist sentiments do exist in China, but they are directed more so at neighboring countries and Southeast Asia. African people are the least of their concern.

One can make a topic of discussion more palatable to liberal left without telling half-truths. These videos of his, I have the impression that the purpose was more so to explain away the rise of popularity of China amongst the progressives, and to protect the legitimacy and validity of the existing liberal establishments. “Yes, the West has problems. But look, China is also just as bad!”

While I do think this is more correct, I would actually like conversations in how we can dispel white-supremacist and anti-Black racism in Asia especially from the viewpoint that Black people tend to be the least of their concern due to not exactly having the horrific history that exist between black and white people, speaking as someone from Asia myself. I generally also dislike the idea that we can excuse certain racism simply due to a lack of history between them even if there are more pressing matters.

I do believe that alot of the anti-black racism in Asia are very much imported from the West and I do want to find ways to dispel them.

Oh. They just look so bad from the start. It is a good capture tactic to attract the attention of reactionaries, because it looks like alot of the anti-china, orientalist channels that are dime-a-dozen on there. Especially the Epstein thing lmao Sorry i did not check, just got home from work then

No he really is a pro-west chud check his political compass video

He only re-established some factuality in the censorship myth video because anyone who does a little bit of research knows that it’s not as bad as the average succdem thinks but the rest has a pro-west angle
