Several months ago I finally deleted reddit but i havent check on any new developments over at Lemmy/Piefed or any of the million instances so I’m wondering: what’s been going on recently? Anything that I missed? Is it still worth my time to engage with these communities? Lmk the history. Last time i checked, Piefed split from lemmy because of the drama between the developers iirc? But what else has been happening?

I don’t think that’s accurate. PieFed is a different server software, written in a different programming language and using a different tech stack, … but they both serve the same network. There wasn’t ever any splitting or noteworthy fight between the devs that I’m aware of?!

I suppose Lemmy devs will be working on the 1.0 version. PieFed keeps rocking and gets new features all the time. Latest thing: we can subscribe to Mastodon accounts.

And if you’ve been absent for a while, there will probably be a few new instances and communities.

    Also: Welcome back!

What I remember is Grail setting up an instance about half a year ago on multiverse.soulism.net
We also got fedinsfw.app replace the old defunct porn place…
We had a few other instances pop up like nord.pub or retrofed.com …seems some online forums and local communities launched some Lemmy instances for their neighborhood… and maybe a tad bit more content in languages I don’t speak.

But overall, I think the Threadiverse settled down a bit… We don’t get a lot of new AND popular instances. Neither did we grow in active users during the past year. There’s a list on fediverse Observer for Lemmy and PieFed you can sort by age in months.
