Even when people create memes about it, it still gives me chills to think what that would’ve been like.
There’s a VR game that models the cave so you can climb around it, though they don’t actually let you go down into where he got stuck. You can see it though, insane crawl getting down there and then you see the hole in the ground he plunged through headfirst. It’s at ~19:00 in this video made by one of his attempted rescuers who explains some differences between the model and the actual cave.
EWUUnsolved got some actual footage of the rescue attempt released by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and put it up in this video which also shows some of the cave although the old camera footage is blurry and it has a ton of watermarking on it. Still insane footage and honestly amazes me how they were able to come up with so many ideas to try on such short notice
I hope I never lose someone close to me in a way that gets memed on. John Edward Jones was a father expecting a second child, a brother, a husband, and a son. He was trapped in the cave a few days before Thanksgiving. I can only imagine how horrible it was for his family.
I’m not usually one to moralize or care about the tastefulness of comedy but the memes about nutty putty do not feel good to see
You and I have never thought “well let’s slither deep into this fissure into the earth to see where it goes” so we are already wired different than that guy was. Best we not try to imagine further.
