Bunch of you got mad at me the other day for pointing this out, but Canada does not have strong laws against speaking bigotry to someone else. If you were someone who actually experiences this regularly, you’d understand that these laws are actually quite limiting on an individual to individual basis (I’ve had wayyy worse shit said to me in front of cops). For example, much of our legal precedent for hate speech laws was inspired by calls in the 1960s from organizations like the Canadian Jewish Congress, which has since been replaced by the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs, which unsurprisingly still operates and actively promotes the genocide of Palestinians with impunity.

So, this man is a bigot, obviously, but it’d be difficult to charge him on anything other than something like a public incitement of hatred:

Which would also mean that this guy would have the option to argue that he genuinely believed he was challenging antisemitism (hatred against an identifiable group in Canada) via this anti-Zionism, which the Canadian state has officially supported the conflation of many times now. There are piecemeal cases that either protect or challenge this conflation in say, employment settings, but it would be tougher to do so in this case since this is a spontaneous public incident.
