    There are plenty of reasons to feel proud of the US, but at some point people conceded that being “patriotic” necessitated being right-wing and conservative.

    i can’t begin to grasp how big or small of an impact this may be, but it’s pretty frequent for people on the left/far-left–“people left of the Democratic Party”, you could say–to be opposed to patriotism and nationalism almost categorically. there are some edge cases for sure (left-wing nationalism is a thing), but i would imagine for some people there’s no interest in reclaiming the symbol because even patriotism for good ends is still patriotism, which they object to.
