I cant search for some communities that show up in newcommunities, and I hear that thats because no one on my instance has been to them yet. Well, how do I be the first one? I cant join by searching because it wont show up, and if I click on a link there it takes me out of the app to that communities instance, and logs me out, and I cant log in because I only have the option to log in to their instance which I dont have an account on.
Go to websites of other popular instances and without even logging in check out their community lists. Once you find a community you want, copy the url, then go back to your instance and paste the whole url into the search box. That should let your instance link to that community and it will start showing up in All for other users as well.
i tried that and the search bar in my instance didn’t show anything…
You may have to give it a few minutes to fetch the data. It can take a little bit from what I’ve heard. But once it’s linked up your good, no waiting.

That doesnt seem to be working in Jerboas search bar, searching for communities I know exist that way doesnt pull any results. Is there a setting im missing, or am I searching in the wrong area? Im using the button second from the left on the bottom, looks like a bulleted list to search.

Ah well, not the end of the world to swap to browser for it but hopefully it gets added to the app soon!
This seems to be the issue for the feature: https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/issues/522
Yah, I couldn’t get it to work either. Tried several times. Quite frustrating.
Same here. I always have to search for and subscribe to new communities through a browser. And after that, I have to kill the app and open it again for the new community to show up in my list. There might be a different way to reload the community list, though. Just haven’t found it, yet.
For me that only works in a browser, not in the app.
Search for
!community@instance
and then it should be added and then searching forcommunity
should show up.
