There are more options than hydrogen. Hydrogen is likely only being usable for Aircrafts because of the energy density, everything else is just inefficient. Steel industry can use less energy by using electricity directly most industries can use electricity directly more efficiently. And heat pumps are actually not that much more expensive than a new Gas heater.
