This community was inspired by this post, except the author thinks splitting the community isn’t the best idea.

Well, I don’t think so.

Linux is still niche for desktop use and thus attracts all kinds of circlejerk-ish content, such as:

  • I deleted Windows posts made every day and upvoted so hard it gets more views than some actually insightful posts.
  • Shitting on Windows posts. Most of us are not fond of Windows but people who haven’t used it in long periods of time simply stop caring about whatever is happening there.
  • Low-effort videos from channels like The Linux Experiment and such.
  • Beginner questions that were answered for hundreds of times, such as “What distro is best for me?”, “What DE should I use?”, “Is Whonix better than Ubuntu 19.04?” etc.

Filtering out such content from your feed is hard without a dedicated community where it would be in the rules, so here we go.

I’m well-aware this community will never gain the popularity of more general Linux communities, but this was never the point to begin with.

Posters are encouraged to contribute back to !linux@lemmy.ml with original content posted here to minimise the split.

Feel free join, if you’re like-minded and have already passed that period of your life when you were glad to see the before-mentioned posts.

Also, please suggest funny and ironic avatars and banners for the community in the comments. I tried finding something myself but failed miserably, unfortunately.
