    We made having a car all but mandatory for being a full participant in society in most places so we can’t exclude people from driving without causing an unemployment crisis among other issues. As stated 1/8 can’t afford insurance as is and yet not driving isn’t an option either.

      Then start factoring in when someone loses their lisence. They often still just drive illegally because they still have to work and have mouths to feed. Then they get caught again and again and their fines keep accumulating, all so they can get from A to B.

      Car centric society is really is unfair to anyone who can’t drive for any reason, be it health, legal, or ability.

        There’s often a special permit for driving to and from work after you’ve lost your license. Which is extra fucked if you think about it since that’s the government agreeing that a car is a requirement to participate in society but then the government neither does more than a pittance to make cars more accessible to the poorest and the most disadvantaged nor do they do anything more than a pittance to make cars less of a requirement to participate in society
