I haven’t had a single issue with this package since I installed GIMP some 6 years ago. I have no reason to install the bloated flatpak version. No reason at all.
Arch, it’s not that uncommon for a pacman update to bork some application. Such is the nature of rolling release. Not saying it’s super common, but in my years using Arch it happened more times than I would have liked.
Maybe time to move up to Manjaro ;) 6 years it never happened to me. With KDE the last year or so, we had some extensive delays before it stabilised enough to be considered stable.
