A lot of you are acting like he’s trying to impose his will on others when he really isn’t. If you fail to see that nuance, you’re just as prejudice as the religious folks you love to hate. This is supposed to be religious cringe, not atheist cringe… but nowadays atheism is practically a religion too, so I guess it fits.

The tone of Christian Gym Goer is teetering on incel. He doesn’t take responsibility, he pushes that on to the “immodest women” who “don’t follow the dress code”.

If the mere presence of women in non-restrictive clothing causes Christian Gym Man to have to immediately pack up and exit the vicinity, that’s really weird. This man need to learn some executive function, not complain about immodest women.

Also, the whole “so much for the tolerant left!” argument is so trite and weak. Intolerance OF intolerance is 100% necessary, and not equal on either side of the isle. The Christian intolerance of “I want to enforce women to a dress code because I can’t control my sexual urges” is worse than “you shouldnt do that”.

You are using the phrase “tone policing” in a way that makes me think you don’t know what it means. threeduck isn’t saying “wow this man shouldn’t be complaining on the internet” or “boy, the wording in this post is HARSH”, he is taking issue with the content of the post, where the man does not recognize that he himself is the originator of these thoughts and places blame (rather indirectly, but he’s still doing it) on immodest women and dress codes.

His religion has taught him the thoughts themselves are spiritual poison instead of the truth: the thoughts are natural. It is important to recognize them, adjust your behavior depending on the content of those thoughts, and move on. It is natural to see a nice butt and feel attraction. It is not good to continue staring. This is why this post is in religious cringe: His religion has made him to feel as though his own thoughts are sinful, and removed his ability to cope with them in a healthy way. He is harmed.

I’m rather unhappy about you adopting the phrase “tone policing” here. This phrase is used to describe how oppressed peoples are critiqued when speaking of their oppression. They’re told they are too loud, angry, harsh, etc when they are experiencing violence, loss of rights and property. This man is not oppressed, he just needs some self reflection. No one is taking issue with his tone, only with his inability to recognize his own agency in this situation. I do hope he found good advice on reddit.

Intentionally leaving out the word “practically” when you misquote me is some underhanded shit and you know it.

            Here’s why I said atheism is P R A C T I C A L L Y a religion:

            • Total faith in a premise that cannot be proven or disproven
            • Rampant prejudice and misdirected hostility
            • Eagerness to maintain an in-group/out-group dynamic
            • Unearned sense of superiority

The fact that he asked an open question didn’t mean he doesn’t judge. He mentions gym regulations and calls other people’s behavior “immodest”. Of course he’d prefer a solution in which those harlots are taught how to dress properly.

Also your last line is a really tired cliche. Big “if you call me a Nazi, you’re the real Nazi” vibes (and no, I didn’t compare anyone to a Nazi)

So it’s not just his tone, but my tone too. You’re putting me in a position where I’m supposed to defend things I never said about things that guy never said. Save this shit for your imaginary shower arguments.

I didn’t say anything about tone. I quoted things he and you said that I disagree with content-wise. What are you talking about?
