That was a weird side story to the series … everyone knows how old Picard is (as well as the real life Patrick Stewart) and they feel that the Picard character needs to have a love interest but they don’t really know how to wedge that in. It’s weird because it’s getting to feel like some sort of religious experience where everyone regards the Picard character so highly, almost to a god like level, that no one can really imagine him being part of a relationship with another woman or person. The arcing story has him in a relationship with Crusher but that is something that happened in a backstory and never watched as part of any series. He had a relationship behind closed doors and it was all forgotten about and never mentioned until now.

There are people that want the love story … others who feel that that story is long past the point of a man’s old age … and others who can’t/don’t want to imagine Picard being with someone. So it all just hangs in some strange limbo where no one acknowledges the past yet the love story is never allowed to continue.

The life story of the Picard character is really leading up to the Shakespearean ‘Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all’
