Interesting that it wasn’t Google themselves that axed the page. Or it was, and this is just an excuse.

Either way I feel like traditional web search is just becoming more irrelevant by the minute. Google certainly is.

Google is also pretty much in crisis. Since the whole Reddit debacle their SEO infested spam results pages got even more exposed. Add to that, that everyone is trying to lock their page down because google is caching a shitton of content which nets the page owners exactly 0 clicks or they even have to pay google for their amp caching.

        Good.

Google abandoned the principles that made them a linchpin of mid early 2000s internet. They have betrayed the people that use their services to worship mammon in the search of the almighty dollar.

It is just and fair that scammers have utilized their own search engine optimization dark patterns to completely destroy their utility, and Google has been implicitly accepting and promoting their practices in order to sell more AdWords.

This is not a case of some high empire being besieged by barbarians at the gate. This is the consequences of the people voting for The leopards eating faces party being really upset when their faces are getting eaten by leopards.

Google needs to die so that a new search engine can arise from its ashes. AdWords needs to die so that a new consumer focused ad management system can arise from its ashes.

And honestly the current incarnation of the internet has gone through its awkward teenage phase and is now a young adult that thinks it knows what’s best for itself and everyone else and still has a lot of growing to do even though it is not aware of that.

AI is not going to save the internet. Corporations are not going to save the internet. And if the internet does not learn how to save itself it’s going to be relegated to obscurity, and instead of being a nigh-infinite collection of interesting web pages to browse through it will become merely the backbone of apps on people’s phones.

The only time I don’t add site:reddit.com (🥴🤫) to my Google search is when I’m looking for a place to eat.

I’ve been using duckduckgo as a back up search whenever I do some piracy, or when searching for news and politics. Google is censoring a lot of things.

I’ve used duckduckgo instead of Google for years. I prefer the search results on ddg. Google got doodoo a while ago.

In my opinion Duckduckgo’s results became a lot better as well.

A few years back I’ve ditched them since I had trouble finding almost any information I needed for work.

Now I’m using it exclusively on my private devices, both phone and PC, and I’m quite happy with it.

the more people use it the better it gets, but let’s not forget is that it is just front end for bing. i don’t think it the solution to privacy/security crowd but it has done a good job over all.

Works fine in Canada too. I am guessing it’s only for France seeing as how the complaint came from a French record label.

I’ve been trying to use it since 2 months, it depends on what you are looking for, sometimes I like the results more than the google ones but the index is smaller than the google one. They know it and at the bottom the offer links to ecosia, startpage and others. If you don’t like the result you can clikc on those links and you will see the same search but from those search engines.

Might work short term, but IDK if there’s any Google regs about evading de-listing, and the result would likely be another DMCA request.

I took a look at this app in f droid. Does anyone know why it requests permission to start at startup?
