I personally don’t really care what people decide to type at me on the internet. My issue and why I actually never moved past being a lurker on Reddit is when your social standing (IE: karma) is also tied to whims of the moment or people not understanding that disagreeing with someone doesn’t make their comments bad necessarily.
I think I’d be more okay with it if it was somehow decoupled from the social standing aspect and if people were willing to vote in good faith (IE: not due to bias or whims).

Idk, I think it’s interesting to see the general public ‘grading’ opinions and information.
It definitely plays a huge role in the echo-chamber effect, but it’s not like lemmy is diverting from that utility.
