that before/after pic that keeps getting shared is so funny because it’s just zionists admitting that their only metric for success is the amount of civilians killed. “oh your attack didn’t turn a city into rubble and result in thousands of child-sized body bags? weak shit”

One of the international participants told me an interesting story on the sidelines of the festival. “They took us to a park and told us something odd,” she said: “‘This park has a special section for women only, which men are not allowed to walk in, and you can be free of your hijab in there.’ And I was thinking that this was contradictory to all they told us throughout the festival regarding that they [wear] their hijabs happily. I did not think they considered their hijabs as a limitation they want to be free of.”

The contradiction between the traditional religious way of thinking about the rôles of women and the way in which Iranian women actually live their lives is one of the main criticisms made by participants in the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement that grew up after the death of Amini.

    […]

The truth about Iran in 2023 is that women here are no different from women anywhere else. They know about their rights, about their abilities, about how to keep up with men at work and how to be successful. When you learn something, you can never unlearn it. And the only way for Iran to become a happy and peaceful society is to accept the different points of view of its people.

Yes, there is still a risk of police spotting women violating the dress code and subsequently warning or fining them, but there is no obligation to torture violators or subject them to the death penalty. Obviously the Islamic Rep. of Iran has problems, nobody is denying that, but there is nothing about it that is especially evil either; alienizing this country simply isn’t helpful.

This is a thing in most Muslim countries, not just Iran

You know, I haven’t seen much coverage of the Iranian protests in a while, so I can’t say I’m not curious. But this is a weird time to bring it up. Reddit is hell.
