Target has announced that it will only sell their Pride Month collection in select stores after suffering a backlash and boycott last year during the 2023 Pride season.
On one hand it’s entirely normal to target merchandise sales to the stores where that merchandise sells well, but in the case of pride, it sends a really clear message.
Target are basically saying they will ‘support’ queer pride, but only in liberal communities where support is already strong.
It’s places where queer pride is WEAK that need a show of support, not where it’s already strong!
The clear message is that as expected, this isn’t truly about Pride at all, it’s about money, and Target will happily allow homophobia to reign victorious in places where standing against it would hit their bottom line.
To be fair, the store employees were getting attacked by homophobes over the items. It is very understandable corporate doesn’t want to risk further violence.
Still, I agree that those are exactly the places the support is needed the most in.

Don’t delete this comment. I will link to it every time someone asks what’s so bad about rainbow capitalism anyway this June.
“Yeah, those Texas faggots need to stay in the closet” -Target, probably

Most gas stations in my town have full time armed security because a homeless person might steal some food.
Wouldn’t be hard to hire armed security to keep your customers from being attacked by angry bigots, I’d imagine.
It all boils down to a line on a spreadsheet. 😐
