Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman declared the Nile crocodile a “cultivated wild animal” in a move intended to allow the Israel Prison Service to station crocodiles around prisons, despite opposition from her ministry’s legal adviser and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, Ynet reported on Thursday.
Silman issued the declaration to enable National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to establish his proposed “crocodile prison.” Pressure was placed on the Israel Nature and Parks Authority several months ago to allow the National Security Ministry to receive crocodiles from Hamat Gader and position them around prisons holding security prisoners. The program was expected to be piloted at Ketziot Prison.
This is insanity.
It very likely is the death blow for oil. I am also deeply convinced it comes too late for much of us; much of the science that predicted the effects of climate change was based on models, not historical data (admittedly due to there being no historical precedent of course); models that were consistently ignoring unquantifiable second-order effects from the increasingly changed climate - some of them diminishing the effect, a majority of them increasing it.
And much of the scenarii - often very optimistic in general, both due to being based on years-old science when published and due to fear of being called an alarmist - from the IPCC also rely on mass carbon-removal at scale, something that has never been demonstrated as either possible or implementable in our current economic system.
And I would add: I lowkey think every modern leftist discourse should consider and incorporate these facts front and center. We are materialists if anything and should face the facts; I believe there will be massive wake up calls in terms of the consequences in much of the world very soon - this is terrain ripe for change.

Mind you the foundation the researchers belong to appears to be genuinely Congolese and homegrown from a few quick searches - I didn’t find the usual imperialist NGO/CIA signals; but also the researchers are both white. The org is also and at first glance incredibly low-funded, to the point where their DNS is now squatted (hence the archive link above), and both their organization and the larger national park they apparently belong to do not appear to have functioning websites (closest is this).
But C. congoensis appears still quite elusive. When the researchers polled the 52 communities around the new monkey’s range, residents in just eight of the communities were familiar with it. The people in the Balanga ethnic group living west of the Lomami River call the monkey likweli, and the Mituku communities around the monkey’s eastern range call the species kasaba knkoni, which translates to “the branch shaker.”
The likweli’s coat is black and glossy and shines under certain light. The monkey’s face is dark, too, except for a halo of bare skin around the mouth that can be the color of a peach or an orange creamsicle. The monkeys have long black facial hairs that give them a charmingly electrocuted appearance

I’m worried that the likely outcome here is the US continues to economically destabilize Iran by killing people and destroying civilian infrastructure until Iran collapses.
As you said I think the global economy would collapse before that. This is not a stable situation that can keep going for many more months. I still think this is a much worse energy crisis than in the 70s, and that one changed the world. The reserves are still being drawn, and the paltry amount of traffic during the MoU doesn’t change shit. The fact the markets haven’t caught up yet / are being manipulated doesn’t change the facts - in fact it’ll likely make the eventual wall even worse (that or as someone from the previous mega said there’s a huge puzzle piece missing / our or at least my understanding of how modern civilization works is deeply flawed).
You say the US is fully ready to go that far, but I think that would make it risk collapse itself and the bourgeois there would find an exit before that, like offing Trump - it’d make a good excuse to end the conflict, doubly so if you false flag it towards an easier target (say, Cuba).

I was curious about it so I looked it up: this concerns space telescopes; apparently their mirror is both so perfect and so light a lateral constant force - such as gravity - would bend them out of shape; so does being upright but they’re designed to bend back in shape when stressed that way - not so from the side.
Other similar optical components might have the same limitations - supporting constant strength from on side but not the other.
Also, good opportunity for a reminder that the US intelligence services had enough money to design, build, and launch at least 16 telescopes equivalent to Hubble, and they had multiple unlaunched spares, in fact they donated two to NASA later. That quote about every gun that is made, every warship launched, etc. hits different for me when I think about that. Sixteen Hubble telescopes.
