  • My understanding (but happy for more information if anyone has it) on the oestrogen thing, is China in the last few years increased restrictions on pharmaceutical medications across the board. Previously you could buy most non addictive (opiates, benzos et) online without any prescription. Antibiotics. Blood pressure medication, whatever. This is included oestrogen. They would also ship these overseas.

Now it’s harder because you need a prescriptions and there’s other rules. So it wasn’t so much some officials saying “How do we make trans people’s lives harder” but more them bringing what had been a rather laissez-faire situation into regulations more in line with most other countries in the world (Europe, Asia etc). But it did materially affect trans people in China and globally.

  • Watched Mad Max 3 Beyond the Thunderdome again

    What a baffling movie.

This is probably the most I’ve enjoyed it. But it’s definitely the weakest of all 5 films by a considerable margin. I think the problem is it’s too self-aware of how silly it is. The earlier and latter films will have something really silly played with absolute sincerity.

But I liked that with Fury Road/Furiosa as context you can see how this film bridges Road Warrior and Fury Road, the aesthetics of the various goons getting wilder and wilder. The myth and story aspects being prominent in the ending too.

Wild that half the kids go to Sydney and the others just stay behind? But I guess they had food and water, so they can rebuild society too.

It is interesting that neither Aunty isn’t really a villain in the way Immortan Joe/Dementus are. Like Bartertown probably really sucks to live in, but it’s not living in a pit under the Citadel.

I do buy theories this isn’t necessarily the same man/Max from 1 and 2. He doesn’t have the splint, his entire personality is different (quick to take the job Aunty offers, ready to settle in the valley where the kids are immediately). He never says his name at any point. Only that he was a cop previously. I think this where Max as shared mythological figure for various societies starts to take root (The Northern Tribes, the Ones who Left, The ones who Stayed, the Citadel etc)

  • While it’s not safe to go to sleep while someone is restrained, memes like wife saying “tie me up and do whatever you want” then the husband is watching the football etc fail, because those scenarios ARE actually super hot.

It’s hot AF to be completely immobilised, blindfolded, gagged, etc while someone does something else they want and (pretends to) ignore you.

  • The full footage shows that the tanks were leaving the square, not entering. They stand in front of them, the driver tries to get around him, they climb on top and chat with the driver for a bit, then bystanders come and walk them away. They have never been identified, their motives never ascertained. It was a divisive time, they could have been stopping them for liberal anti-CPC reasons, they could have been a loyalist counter-protestor insisting they go back to remain in the square, they could have had undiagnosed mental illness and be having a breakdown at really inopportune time, etc
