I understand what you’re saying, but as long as they keep operating in the same way while gaining users it’s better for everyone. More users means more privacy because it gets harder to tell traffic from different users apart.

You can use protondb.com to look up those games to see if they work using Steam’s Proton compatibility layer.
The Sims 3 worked for me but just make sure it’s installed on the same drive as Steam or it may not work properly. The launcher sometimes didn’t work either but there are workarounds for that.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Steam controller] Anyone hear back after the May 8th reservation blitz?
4·il y a 1 moisNothing yet. This was posted on May 7th:
Replenishment of inventory will vary from region to region. We will start fulfilling reservations next week in the US / Canada, and UK / EU / AU in the following weeks.
So I’m guessing those of us outside North America will have to wait a while…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Between LineageOS and /e/OS which one would you pick for the combo degoogling, privacy improvements, and dailydriving?
1·il y a 1 moisI can’t really compare them because I’ve not used LineageOS, but I got a Fairphone Gen6 with /e/OS a few weeks ago and it’s better than I expected.
One of the problems with custom roms is you have to unlock the bootloader to install them which can then prevent some apps from working. I didn’t have a problem with that because the phone came with /e/OS pre-installed with the bootloader locked. Depending on what you need the phone to do it might be worth considering. It gets quite frequent updates.
The main issue I had with /e/OS was the launcher was too basic for my needs. However, this was easily fixed by just installing a different one. Most of the default apps are good enough that I haven’t needed to find a replacement for them.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Thoughts on /e/OS vs Android on Fairphone?
1·il y a 2 moisHmm… I might have to look into the WhatsApp issue as I still need it for work, friends and family (not my choice). Do you think it makes any difference if the bootloader is still locked? I think /e/OS devices from FP come locked.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Thoughts on /e/OS vs Android on Fairphone?
1·il y a 2 moisYes. I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth buying a model that comes with /e/OS pre-installed or if it’s better to stick with Android.

Europe@feddit.org•British schoolgirl stranded in Denmark after return flight blocked over UK border rulesEnglish
30·il y a 3 moisShe is still at school and the article states that she has missed two weeks of classes already ahead of her final exams. There is a quote from the headteacher of her school stating “She is currently missing taught lessons across all subjects and is at risk of missing important assessments, including GCSE exams.” In this case it’s not just ‘framing’ but an important detail.

27·il y a 4 moisSomeone once said “don’t let perfection be the enemy of good” … or something like that.
Anyway, my point is it’s good that this kind of stuff is starting to get into mainstream media, even if they don’t go into as much detail as they could.
They might not have wanted to scare people off by giving them too much information all at once, especially things like the Fediverse which even lots of tech savvy people don’t really understand.
It works fine for me. When you changed servers, did you also change countries? Sometimes all the servers in a country will claim I am connected when I can’t access anything and changing to a different country fixes the problem.
Good spot! The image is exactly the same apart from the nut (which is also exactly the same shape).

Linux Mint@lemmy.ml•Ireland's Communications (Interception and Lawful Access) Bill
5·il y a 5 moisBased on your description of the proposed law, I think it’s unlikely. That sounds more like intercepting internet communication which probably wouldn’t be done on individual computers unless you were being specifically targeted.
I think the Linux Mint organization is based in Ireland but its contributers are from around the world. It’s also open source so any embedded spyware in the code would be discovered quite quickly.
I saw a post recommending Limo not too long ago. I’ve not used it but it has FOMOD and LOOT support.

23·il y a 6 moisDescribing volume dials as “retro” is setting a very low bar for what can be considered retro. Also, it should have been super obvious to car makers from the start that using a touchscreen for almost everything was a really bad idea! As others have pointed out, you need to be able to control the car without having to take your eyes off the road for more than a couple of seconds.

I had the same problem with lack of information before I bought a phone with /e/OS.
I bought a Fairphone Gen.6 a few months ago and love it! My bank and government apps work on it, which surprised me, but the OS was pre-installed and had the bootloader locked which probably helped.
Battery life is very good (I can leave it on standby for up to four days) and it had some solid choices for pre-installed apps. The one thing I didn’t like was the launcher / home screen so I switched it out for one with more features.
Basically /e/OS looks and behaves like stock Android except for the privacy invasive stuff. There is an app on the phone that blocks and shows you all the trackers in other apps on your phone. Ironically Murena’s own apps seem to be some of the worst offenders, but their privacy app blocks them.
