No you don’t. See: Seattle with more dogs than kids. I have to walk my dog 3 times a day. She keeps me going outside, and it’s a great excuse for a walk to the park.

Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•This place is called Pike Place Market, Seattle. Last year, some people claimed no one will shop here anymore if it's pedestrianized. English4·2 days agoSo glad they did this. I made a wrong turn once when I first moved here and drove down the road accidentally. Blocking it off just helps everyone.
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto News@lemmy.world•Trump signs executive order calling for foreign tourists to pay higher national park feesEnglish3·2 days agoHawaii does this. Hanauma Bay is free for locals but charges $25 for tourists.

Finally my people.
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Voyager@lemmy.world•Voyager v2.37.1, with experimental Piefed supportEnglish2·4 days agoDoes this blahaj.zone also not allow downvotes? I love the blahaj.zone community, but I need to see downvotes on news articles to know if there is some controversy, either with the news site, the content, or something else. I know why blahaj.zone doesn’t allow downvotes, and I support it, but I can’t have it be my main account’s instance because of my personal use case.
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Voyager@lemmy.world•Voyager v2.37.1, with experimental Piefed supportEnglish1·4 days agoExactly what I was thinking with Python. I love Python, and it definitely enables more devs to contribute and use it, but it is never something I would use for a backend because it will not scale without a lot of work. I don’t know a lick of Rust, but I know that it’s insanely good with scaling and latency, so if I was building a social media platform that I had high hopes in, I would just start with that and learn it.
It’s nice to see that the fediverse can expand laterally though and have many different options. I may open a PieFed account just to see how it goes. I’m optimistic about the future of the fediverse having been here for 3 years.
100%. The current city density plan will not cut it with the current growth projections. We’re trying our damnedest by being active in many advocacy groups!
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft pushes staff to use internal AI tools more, and may consider this in reviews. 'Using AI is no longer optional.'English8·8 days agoIt’s the same in Amazon software development. We have like 3 different AI tools. I enjoy it for unit tests and predicting the next two lines of a simple thing, but it’s not going to refactor our codebase.
It truly is! On the way to Capitol Hill pride as I comment. Loving the weather for my outfit!
Exactly. In Seattle, summer is the best. High of 75 most days and because of the water surround the city, it only gets down to high 50’s at night. And our winters aren’t too bad. 45F/40F averages, just wet with the light rain.
But don’t tell anyone because we don’t want more people moving here!
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•98 degrees upstairs, ac stopped working at 8am.English2·9 days agoThanks so much for the chill reply :)
I’m too ADHD in that I don’t have as the replies like a conversation and reply without reading the other replies. I’ll do better to get more context before reacting quickly in the future.
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•98 degrees upstairs, ac stopped working at 8am.English1·8 days agoIt was mostly a joke? I’m sorry I didn’t do a /joke to verbalize that.
I’m sorry I’m not chronically online. My “active” filter is about 12-30 hour old so I’m not chronically online as much as I was on Reddit. This is like a forum. Let’s not criticize people for not reacting quickly, please.

I’m team metric for everything but temperature when relating to human environments.
~~This is DAMAG3! Here’s her most popular song, and my favorite. It’s got several jokes in it, but still has a semi-serious tone. https://youtu.be/egB7_7xB9NI~~
She’s an amazing artist from the South that moved to LA (thankfully). I saw her in Seattle a year ago, and we burned Harry Potter books in the parking lot afterwards. Go listen to her music and support queer artists escaping the South!~~I also just found out that she’s on tour in August! Go see her!! https://www.songkick.com/artists/10318338-damag3~~
Edit: this is not DAMAG3. It clearly says “Eve Weston” and I can’t read. XD
But if people are visiting, don’t most people want massive tourist infrastructure?
How can we “visit” if there’s not even a hotel? Do tourists need to learn the native language to find a place?
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Political Humor@lemmy.world•Fare free buses?! This monster needs to be stopped.English8·10 days agoWow, insane that it’s that low right now. Minimum wage in Seattle is $20.76 and grows based on inflation every year. It’s grown from $15 in 2017.
Flames5123@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some "toy programs" you've created?English4·14 days agoI have a python script that I run on my phone to scrape a few websites and return the current food trucks at my few local breweries with the times they’re there. It makes our once/twice a week dinner selections so much easier than having to manually visit 4 websites. Some sites have been updated, and I haven’t updated my script and I need to.
Because I use the YouTube app on Apple TV. It doesn’t have all the fancy stuff. Plus I want to kinda support the dozens of creators I watch without spending $120/month since they’d all be Patreon/Twitch.
