  • Reminds me of a great line about this in simulacra and simulation. “Childishness” is essentially an illusion

I think this also explains why a lot of neurodivergent adults are considered “childish” by corporate fucks by how they see problems in relation to how much. Maybe I should get into more team-based games because I don’t have experience with them, but it truly sounds like you’re describing a hyper-individuality bleeding through another domain. Love to live in a world with a bunch of individual people solving their individual problems and occasionally bumping in to each other to solve a problem collectively.

They’re software engineers. To them the problem must lie in the software and the solution is to fiddle with it

This is really funny to me because I do somewhat software-engineering oriented work, and I always end with “This is such a flawed design that needs to be reconstructed/blown up and whoever built it was only thinking about getting the job done to satisfy their personal interests.

  • Lmaoooo I’m reading some old Norton anthology of American literature and liberals have always been extremely cowardly

John brown’s raid at Harper’s ferry? Liberals agreed with the idea behind it but the optics were bad

Ralph Waldo Emerson’s message to Martin Van Buren imploring him to rethink Indian removal? Liberals agreed, but there was nothing that could be done 🥺

Lincoln voting against abolition in 1846? Uwu it could threaten the Union 🥺

And on and on and on. It’s always been about a power struggle

Amazing how nothing has changed in this country that is demonstrably beyond hope

  • Talking to someone about how “collapse” has been happening since the Reagan administration and there won’t be some kind of cataclysmic event that sets it off? Absolutely fucking baffling. Just so surreal

What the hell do they think COVID was if not the powers that be signaling a complete indifference towards humanity? Lmaooooooo like those on the periphery of complete poverty are increasing every single day

God fucking damnit. No, the stock market “recovering” doesn’t mean that things have recovered if fewer people can afford to live. Things haven’t recovered when you have to rent everything people used to own.

I really should’ve studied history. Because all the comments from apolitical people I’ve heard irl and seen online are some variation of “Things have been worse before, humanity will recover as it always has” 😀

Seems like this is how you get a fucking Hitler.

I guess I thought there was some credence to the idea that we just live in an era of endless information and things probably aren’t that bad. Until I talked to a self-aware boomer. agony-shivering

There was actually some bliss in that I was probably overreacting to stuff and making myself anxious or whatever. Awwww shit looks like online is actually real life regardless if it translates to the most popular candidate on social media getting in office

  • This past weekend, I had what can only be called the experience of a lifetime.

I saw a young person—he was visibly frustrated and struggling. He appeared to be rummaging through a trash can in search of food (or other necessary items). This person was probably about ten years old, but I couldn’t help but be absolutely flustered by his work ethic. I approached the young man who revealed himself to be Jake, and today was actually his tenth birthday. He gave me a firm handshake, solid eye contact and that was all I needed to know he’d be a valuable asset to my company.

A year later, Jake has decided to forego his education and now works full-time at our steel manufacturing facility. As he is not of legal age to work, I was luckily able to pull a few strings with our local judicial bureau and they agreed to an extraordinary exception. Fortunately with this career, he has the opportunity to not only provide for himself but his impoverished family as well.

This is why I do what I do. It’s not about the company or me at the end of the day, it’s about providing better lives for the everyday people in our community, young or old 🇺🇸🇺🇸
