I highly doubt that you don’t know a single thing about AI, the climate crisis, the computer parts crisis, the datacenter/human health crisis and a lot of other things.

XMPP@slrpnk.net•Is there any xmpp based app that can be tried for free ?
2·13 days agoAFAIK. All major clients for XMPP is open source and gratis.
Two good options for Android is Conversations and Snikket. Both are available on F-Droid and Google Play Store. Conversations on GPS is a donationware version though.
On iOS you have Snikket and Monal.
On the desktop you have Gajim. I think it’s available for Linux, Windows and Mac OS.
You also need an account. Conversations offers accounts for free over at https://account.conversations.im/. There’s probably a lot more services as well.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Linus (LTT) argues that despite middling gaming performance, the Steam Machine excels as a compact desktop workstation thanks to the seamless and user-friendly experience provided by SteamOS.English
2·13 days agoIf I didn’t know anything about Linux, and had Linus Tech Tips as my main source of knowledge in regards to Linux, I would have considered Linux to be a toy novelty project at best.
Linus Tech Tips should focus on what they’re good at, which is, err… Well. I bet they’re good at something. Perhaps making noodles or something?
You need to add some sort of context. Posting a single link without even a title explaining what it is, makes it look like random spam.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Hey! I'm new to lemmy, but not to linux. Wanted to ask about your experiences pirating software on linux and if it's really all that viable.
12·13 days agoSoftware piracy is the very reason that Microsoft got all the market share and had the power to ruin it for Linux.
Either pay for the software, use free alternatives or write your own software.

1·20 days agoYou have multiple options. The most popular one is probably a hobostow. :)
That would be silly! You always need the man pages.

8·20 days agoDo you really need electricity to light a fire? 🤔
Add the command to your configuration for sudo/doas so you don’t have to enter a password for it when executed as your user.

31·21 days agoHow are you supposed to learn anything if you don’t make the effort of actually learn anything? Do you expect to get everything served on a silver plate? :)
What else do you need? ;)
It’s users like this who gives Linux users a bad reputation.
When shit like this happens it’s your responsibility to call these shitheads out.
I’ve been using XMPP the past two decades. I use it because I haven’t found something that’s better.
I honestly find it more strange to use a display manager at all. ;)

That’s super easy to fix with tools like entr. That’s what I use when I write Markdown documents so I can automatically generate the plain text file to a PDF document using Pandoc, and preview it simply by saving the file in Neovim. :)
