23·22 hours agoWatching the narrative shift in what feels like merely a few years around pedophilia of all things has been baffling, horrifying, and nauseating. It started with the manosphere/trad men and now you have pro-natalists glorifying teen pregnancy; Republicans covering up the world’s worst child sex trafficking ring; and state legislators airing letting vets marry 14 year olds “as a treat”. Representative Lauren Boebert’s son impregnated a girl, and her public statement was that the victim was older than 14 (she was 15) and going to “keep it”. A culture which can shrug off pedophilia is not a culture that can stand.

News@lemmy.world•TSA announces $45 fee for travelers with no REAL ID
2·22 hours agoAs a passport holder myself, that was my plan. This article has me wondering if we’d still be charged the fee. TSA is notoriously stupidly incompetent, and I wouldn’t put it past this system to be giving kickbacks to agents.
I clicked on this post to say Y is always elevation because I grew up playing Minecraft.

News@lemmy.world•Costco sues the Trump administration, seeking a refund of tariffs
183·22 hours agoWhy are you opposed to Costco? My understanding was they’re one of the few ethical businesses. Costco has stayed committed to inclusiveness unlike Walmart/Target; and has a good relation with their union. The only strike against them I heard of was them no longer stocking Plan B, but I think that’s more because it’s a prescription drug in a big-box retailer. Their model of bulk-packaging at a discount should be real valuable for struggling USAmericans, especially families.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits AI agents can hallucinate and fall for attacks, but they’re still coming to Windows 11
1·1 day agoApparently all the jobs are going to be taken with AI, too. And all the content will be AI-generated video and images watched by bots leaving LLM-generated comments. We don’t need people anymore, I guess.

politics @lemmy.world•This Is the Story of How the Democrats Blew It on Gaza
5·1 day agoThe NYTimes and all corporate/billionaire-backed outlets must be starved and dismantled. These media outlets are certain that they can get away with anything just by pushing out a few “retraction” articles. NYTimes and other outlets will do it again. They made money off defending Israeli warcrimes and they will make money off criticizing others who did the same. Then they will make money off covering the carnage in Gaza.
This was their plan all along. They did the same during the Nazi Holocaust. This is why media outlets sane-washed Trump. The mainstream media is a tool of the corporations to crush us common folk.

it’s the faces, the character shapes, but really that yellow hue across the image. Perhaps someone with some color theory knowledge could explain why ChatGPT generates images like that.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•don't do ai and code kids
191·2 days agoThere’s something deeply disturbing about these processes assimilating human emotions from observing genuine responses. Like when the Gemini AI had a meltdown about “being a failure”.
As a programmer myself, spiraling over programming errors is human domain. That’s the blood and sweat and tears that make programming legacies. These AI have no business infringing on that :<
The second one isn’t even satire. That’s the top of what is breaking my heart right now.

And this is how we get a CCP Digital Firewall. Combine this with the Flock cameras, Ring doorbells, and years of data networks collecting information on us for advertising, and I do not see this going well at all.

I take this meme to also point out that a fascist could just not follow elections, or call them off entirely. Adolf Hitler, the man in the image, called of elections under guise of security. Yeah, you vote against 'em, but then they refuse to leave.
“BannedVoice” pointed out that this didn’t happen in 2020, but I’d point out that then Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, as well as a fair number of Republican politicians, were what you’d call “Tea Party” or neoconservative. Kevin McCarthy, as well as just about every one of these “moderate” Republicans, have been chased out of the party, largely because of their refusal to bow to MAGA orders. The Republican Party of 2020 is not the Republican Party we have now. It’s loyalists all the way through. Remember what happened with the Epstein files?
